Our Story

Although Be Kind Dallas officially became a nonprofit in June 2025, our work in the refugee community began nearly a decade earlier.

In 2016, Be Kind Dallas started as a group of five friends who volunteered with Refugee Services of Texas as a Welcome Team. Our goal was simple but powerful: to set up homes for newly arrived refugee families so they could walk into a space that felt safe, dignified, and welcoming from day one.

What began as a grassroots effort quickly grew. As the need increased, so did the community around us. Friends invited friends, neighbors donated furniture, and volunteers showed up with time, resources, and compassion. Over the years, that original group of five expanded into a thriving network of support.

Over the past two years, Be Kind Dallas has expanded that same mission—creating warm, welcoming homes—to serve formerly unhoused families as well. While the communities we serve have grown, our purpose has remained the same: ensuring families have the comfort, dignity, and stability that come with a place to call home.

Today, Be Kind Dallas is powered by a community of more than 500 volunteers and donors who believe that everyone deserves a fresh start and a welcoming home. Together, we continue turning empty apartments into homes filled with care, compassion, and hope.
